The Ipswich Art Awards (the Awards) has operated since the year 2000. During that time it has become a huge success cementing itself into the position of being a major event in the Ipswich Festival calendar. Most works are received from artists throughout South-east Queensland and Northern New South Wales. It has also attracted attention from artists nationally.
The Ipswich Art Awards is among the top prize giving art exhibitions in Queensland.
The Awards link with other Ipswich Festival events including: the Ipswich Festival Parade, Street Party and the Wine and Jazz Festival. Linking the awards to these events ensures the greatest number of visitors possible to view the exhibition.
During the festival time the awards help provide a creative hub in the centre of the city by linking with exhibitions in the Ipswich Art Gallery and the Ipswich Community Art Gallery. The Ipswich Arts Foundation and the Awards provide additional art work to the city’s art collection by providing an acquisition prize.
